Marcel Magis
Marcel Magis was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
In the end of the 1980s, he used to publish the Avant-garde Art Magazine “Positionen”, in Hanover, serving both roles of Editor-in-Chief and Graphic Designer.
He was introduced to generative art as early as the 1990s, using a Sinclair QL. This first work was exhibited in “Medienhaus Hannover”.
In the period 2001 – 2002 Magis lived in the Byteburg castle, organizing meetings with extraordinary people and working together with Kai Krause, well known for his involvement with software like Kai Power Tools, Goo and Bryce.
He then moved to Berlin and started making a living as a Writer and Journalist.
In 2010, he returned to Hanover, hired by Heise-Verlag, having as a main focus to plan the first edition of a new publication, i.e. “Mac & I”.
Nowadays, Marcel Magis lives in Hildesheim, Germany, working as an Artist and Freelancer. He spends most of his time building planets.
According to the artist, the beauty of Math becomes visible through Generative Art, creating new spaces, landscapes, or even a whole new planet.
While Marcel Magis considers the narrative character of a picture/ video to be essential – e.g. a story on time –, his computer is only the tool that makes this happen. Still, as it offers more and more possibilities, it is absolutely fascinating to the artist.
Utilizing Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, structures and landscapes are not just depicted but get more integrated into our own surroundings or create fantastic, accessible spaces. Thus, our dream worlds turn into reality.
It is amazing to be a part of a movement that is no longer about the future but the present times.
